New Dominican Republic News

One of the fastest growing countries for tourism is the Dominican Republic. Key to the growth in tourism is the addition of more flights to the country. Punta Cana is the most popular area for all inclusive resorts is Punta Cana, but more flights to other areas such as La Romana are being added, allowing more diversity in choice of resorts. In addition, a new section of the Autopisa del Coral Highway from the capital of Santo Domingo to La Romana was completed last year, allowing reduced travel times between the two cities.

New resorts in the DR include Riu Palace Bavaro at the Riu Pnta Cana complex. This resort joins two other Riu Palaces in Punta Cana and has 610 rooms. Opening this month is the Eden Roc at Cap Cana that will offer 34 free standing suites and three luxurious bungalows. This resort will have a full service spa, three Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses, tennis facilities, a Beach Club and Kids Club.

Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana recently opened close to the Punta Cana airport. This 176 room resort is the newest addition to the Grand Resorts of Cap Cana. Casa de Campo, one of the most well known properties on DR, recently underwent a $52 million dollar refurbishment.

Under construction is the huge Gems of Cap Cana, part of the all inclusive AM Resorts. There will be four separate resorts in this property - Zoetry Gems at Cap Cana, Secrets Gems at Cap Cana, Now Gems at Cap Cana and Now Preferred Gems at Cap Cana. This will add 1100 new rooms and construction should be completed in 2012.

The four resorts will share "The Promenade" a center with 148,000 square feet of retail and recreational facilities.

AMResorts recently opened the 373 room adults only property, Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana and the adjacent Now Larimar Puna Cana in Playa Bavaro.
